Situated to the north of the Catalan capital of Barcelona, Playa de Aro is a coastal town which has about 10,000 inhabitants throughout the year. The town is split into two sections, that which overlooks the sea and that which is situated a little inland from the rest. There are numerous small beaches that are accessible from the part of the town that was originally a fishing port. The municipality of Play de Aro lies on the Costa Brava, facing the Mediterranean Sea, about half an hour from the popular, bustling resort of Lloret de Mar.
