Part of the Sant Martí district of Barcelona, La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou – to give it its full name – was extensively redeveloped in the early 1990s in the run-up to the city hosting the Olympic Summer Games. Home to just under 10,000 inhabitants these days, the former Olympic park is a trendy urban residential area with plenty to offer its inhabitants. Located close to Ciutadella Park, some of the city's best beaches and with its own Metro station, many inhabitants live and work there year round. There is also an attractive marina in the district, unsurprisingly called Olympic Port. Known for its restaurants, bars and nightlife, few districts in the city are as vibrant.
